Continuous Quality Improvement Processes

The UC Irvine School of Medicine established an Education Compliance and Quality division in 2015 to fulfill its commitment to continuous quality improvement. The office resides in Medical Education and is composed of an Assistant Dean for Education Compliance and Quality, an Accreditation Specialist, and the School of Medicine Registrar. This office oversees the accreditation, compliance, and quality improvement activities of the medical education program, in collaboration with the divisions of Admissions, Curricular Affairs, Diversity and Inclusion, Educational Technology, and Student Affairs within the Office of Medical Education.

The Education Compliance and Quality division develops compliance-monitoring systems, collects and analyzes data, and provides recommendations for quality improvement. The office also conducts the Annual Institutional Review (AIR), a comprehensive quality review and strategic planning process involving administrators, faculty, and students. The office develops measurable metrics and assessment tools to evaluate the quality of educational activities and student experience on an ongoing basis. Data generated by this office is employed in the school’s AIR.
